Startup Backend Engineer

Our client is a confidential seed-stage startup that is ready to bring on a back-end engineer to supercharge their core product. With a founding team that has deep expertise and connections in their industry, they are uniquely positioned to make a significant impact.

In just five months, they’ve launched V1 of their first product and grown revenue 10x. Backed by top industry VCs, their goal is to perfect their first product and continue scaling rapidly through 2025.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer who will not only manage and optimize their main application backend but also play a key role in supporting their ML and data operations.

Fully in person role in NYC & 6th hire on the team

Responsibilities:

• Design and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems across AWS and GCP.
• Define and optimize database schemas for both structured and unstructured data.
• Manage websocket communications and real-time data streams.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build).
• Develop automated monitoring and testing frameworks for production systems.

• AWS (Boto3, S3, Lambda)

• GitHub Actions, CI/CD automation

ML Ops Responsibilities

• Provision and manage virtual machines and training infrastructure.
• Build and optimize parallel model training workflows.
• Engineer and manage datasets for ML model development.
• Manage ML artifacts (datasets, models, evaluation results).

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience in backend software engineering.
• Deep experience with AWS and/or GCP cloud environments.
• Experience designing production database systems (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis).
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability principles.
• Experience working with cloud-native applications (Cloud Run, Lambda, etc.).
• Experience with automated monitoring and testing of backend systems.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with GCP Vertex AI.
• Experience designing ML evaluation pipelines and artifact tracking systems.
• Knowledge of model deployment best practices and serving architectures.
• Exposure to dataset management and versioning tools.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary : $160K, dependent on experience
