Position Summary Medical Faculty Associates is recruiting for a Social Worker as part of the CHOICE (Continuum of Care in Hospitalized Patients with Opioid Use Disorder and Infectious Complications of Drug Use) project. This social worker will assess patients' needs, develop patient centered plans, and work with patients to achieve their optimal health post discharge from the hospital after admission for infectious complication from injecting opioids. The Social Worker will perform motivational interviewing, provide linkage and connection to wrap-around services in accordance with study protocols, provide intensive patient navigation and follow principles of harm reduction. Clinical supervision is available for components of this work to meet clinical requirements towards achieving LICSW certification, if desired. ** This position is contingent on grant funding. The grant is slated to end 07/26. ** Essential Duties and Responsibilities to perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. The Social Worker performs the following duties/responsibilities for the assigned Practice Area: Applies the theories, knowledge, procedures, methods, and/or ethics derived from a formal educational program in social work to restore or enhance social functioning of individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations or communities through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and advocacy to maximize the individual's well-being. Assess risk by screening and interviewing clients. Identify and construct service plans that best meet the client's needs and determine best resources available. Develop plans by identifying programs and services available for a variety of client issues dealing with challenges, change, and crisis. Follow study protocol to provide linkage services, intensive patient navigation, and wrap around care to participants, including connecting participants to resources in the community and assisting them in navigating such resources as needed. Maintain case history records and document client(s) progress. May perform chart reviews and generates notes on evaluations, therapy sessions, reports, and other accountability measures. Counsel individuals, groups, families, or communities regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, childcare, and/or medical care in accordance with licensure. Perform motivational interviewing related to harm reduction, treatment of substance use disorders (SUD) and prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Provide training, guidance, and support to others preparing for use of resources. Adhere to research Participate in regular site-team meetings and multi-site team meetings, and be responsive to supervision from off-site central study LICSW. Perform additional duties to include assisting the PI with day-to-day affairs of the site activities as they relate to supporting adherence to protocols of the Clinical Trial, and other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. Licensure A current LGSW, LISW or LICSW license in the District of Columbia. Experience Experience in motivational interviewing required. One to two years of experience supporting clients with substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder, is preferred. At least one year of research experience is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating professionally, cheerfully, and effectively with study participants, families, clinicians, colleagues, research associates, patient/peer navigators and other study team members. History of working independently and as part of a team. Good written communication skills for electronic health record documentation. Proficiency reading documents and following instructions written in English. The ability to work well with others across differences and resolve conflicts when they occur. Familiarity with the technology/equipment utilized by the research project. Compassion, patience, and calm. Integrity, with appropriate concern for confidentiality. Flexibility, initiative, and self-direction. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. Concern for quality and accuracy.
