Overview Under the supervision of the Director of Investigations, the Senior Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations under local, state, and federal fair housing laws, and other laws within the jurisdiction of the department. The Senior Investigator performs this function to ensure that the Office effectively engages and serves residents, especially the most vulnerable, and advocates for fair housing and equity, to reach the Office’s mission: to address discrimination and ensure fair access to housing, public services, accommodations, and participation in activities for all people of Boston. Responsibilities Responsible for investigating discrimination complaints and seeing complaints through the investigation process; this includes but is not limited to interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses, and performing comparative analysis of evidence. Prepares reports that present investigative facts, analysis of issues, and recommendations for corrective action. Engages in conciliation of cases and drafts settlement agreements. Issues determinations and final investigative reports under the supervision of the Director of Investigations. Prepares cases for administrative or appeal hearings or transmittal to counsel in case of judicial review. Reviews and confirms compliance with governing fair housing law. Provides timely submission of required reports to the appropriate federal agency. Minimum Entrance Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred. At least three years (3) experience in the area of fair housing, civil rights, or a related field. Thorough knowledge of fair housing law is strongly preferred. Familiarity with real estate law, and real estate rental and sales practices preferred. Experience conducting interviews and counseling complainants. Experience in mediation, negotiation, and other forms of dispute resolution preferred. Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills required. Strong legal research and interpersonal skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is required. Bilingual in Spanish, or another language commonly spoken in Massachusetts, preferred.
