Job Title: Senior Pastor

Position Purpose: The primary responsibilities of the Pastor are to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the biblical revelation, to engage in pastoral care ministries, to provide administrative leadership in all areas of Christian life, and to act as the chief administrator to the paid staff. The senior pastor upholds the biblical responsibilities of a Pastor as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1: 5-16.  

I. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a vision for Palma Ceia Baptist Church that aligns with biblical principles and the mission of evangelism; able to inspire others to follow your vision through strategic planning, compassionate leadership and unwavering faith.
  2. Lead the church in all activities and through preaching and teaching the word of God in its entirety, administer the ordinances, and watch over, guide, and advance the spiritual interest, social and economic status of the church working with church leadership.

3. Lead and direct the Christian education program in teaching the church body and provide Christian education to expand Church ad home Bible study programs.

4. Minister to the church at all regular and appointed times/services for worship, and to individual members.

5. Provide pastoral care to the congregation, performing ceremonies such as weddings, funerals and individuals counseling. To officiate at special services such as weddings and funerals.

6. Lead the church in an effective program of witnessing and in a caring ministry for people in the church, community and building outreach. Visit homes of church members, visitors, ministers to sick, shut-ins and others in need.

7. Conduct spiritual and crisis counseling for members and prospective members.

8. Partner with other pastors, community leaders, and school leaders within the community, to serve Jesus and our community through joining ministry projects throughout the year, developing fellowship and community wide opportunities to witness and worship.

9. Fully and effectively communicate with all ages of membership.

10. Understand and implement problem solving techniques as problems are voiced to you by membership.

II. Administration:

1. Be the church moderator and preside at all church business and Advisory Board meetings and be an ex-officio member of all standing committees and auxiliaries of the church.

2. Be the official spokesperson for the church related to media relations and/or crisis communications, with the power to delegate that duty, or a portion of that duty as the Holy Spirit leads.

3. Designate the Assistant Pastor with guidance from the Holy Spirit after prayer and meditation.

4. Work with the Human Resource Committee and Advisory Board to support, supervise, manage, evaluate and hire paid church staff.

5. Foster a sense of teamwork among church staff and hold regular staff meetings to coordinate the ministries of the church and facilitate communication.

6. Work with Deacons, church officers, committees and auxiliaries as they perform their assigned responsibilities, while also conducting Christian training to all groups.

7. Mentor ministerial staff including newly called ministers.

III. Outreach:

1. Oversee and promote congregational benevolence and community outreach.

2. Work with the Outreach Ministries to implement programs that extend to the nonbelievers, inactive members and new residents of our community with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

3. Support the membership committee, auxiliaries and organizations of the congregation in the assimilation of new members into the life of the congregation.

4. Encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work with an emphasis on welcoming others to participate in the mission work of Christ.

5. Provide pastoral care in conjunction with ministers, other staff, officers, boards, and committees, through visitation, counseling, and prayer.

 

IV, Qualifications :

2. Maintains a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed bible study, prayer and meditation.

3. Possess Christian values and of good moral character. Have a strong relationship with GOD.

4. Education:

A. General:

a. Seminary education with a degree is a plus.

b. Ordained and licensed under Baptist Doctrine.

c. BS or BA Degree desired. Masters or Doctorate Degree is a plus.

B. Christian:

a. The pastor should partner with Christian educators to maintain a balance of Christian leadership development opportunities for each member of the church. Develop and implement strong and flexible Christian education programs.

b. Continually studies the word through workshops, seminary or other training.

c. The Pastor should continually expand administrative and pastoral skills. 

V. Working Conditions

The position of Pastor requires flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends. However, the Pastor must maintain regular office hours to continually provide a sufficient amount of time for accessibility to members of the congregation, and for regular communication with church staff.
